If you’ve got a wet spot near your leach drain or septic trench it’s a sign that there’s a problem with your system. Water should flow through your leach drain and then be dispersed evenly into the surrounding soil – not collecting in one spot.
In the past, leach drain blockages often required expensive repairs and physical intervention but now we have much more affordable solutions.
Fat, oil and grease blockage
The most common cause of wet spots above a septic trench or leach drain is excessive amounts of fat, oil and grease that have passed through the septic system undigested and are now causing blockages.
The bacteria in your septic system are not capable of efficiently digesting fat, oil and grease – they’re better suited to digesting organic waste. The simple and cost-effective solution to this is to introduce specialty bacteria that are efficient at digesting fat, oil and grease which will flow through your system and break down any blockages.
Insufficient beneficial bacteria
If your septic system doesn’t have enough beneficial bacteria to effectively digest waste, undigested waste flows out of your septic tank and into your leach drain where it will cause blockages.
The solution here is simple and cost-effective – introduce specialty bacteria which are highly-effective at digesting waste and boost their populations with the micro and macro nutrients they need to quickly multiply. This will break down blockages in your leach drain and restore your entire system to peak performance.
Damaged pipes
Tree roots can break pipes and cause blockages if they’re allowed to grow nearby. You shouldn’t have any trees planted within 10m of your leach drain or septic trench. If you’re getting wet spots near your leach drain and you have trees planted nearby you might have a root problem.
The best thing to do is to call in a wastewater expert so that they can check to see if there is in fact tree root damage and recommend the best course of action. If your system’s pipes are undamaged then you’re in luck and you can use a biological solution to restore your system.

I am writing to recommend your product, EcoCare Activator, to others who may have problems with their septic or leach drain. I purchased Activator 4 months ago as I had a problem with odour; a build up of fats; blockages in my seepage drains and wetness at the surface of my trench. I had been told by the plumber that it would cost me a fortune to replace my entire system. However, that is no longer necessary as the trench is now dry and running well – and the odours are gone. I could not speak more highly of Activator.

We have two septic systems, both treated with EcoCare. Systems have remained trouble free and have not required to be pumped out since we started using the product 12 years ago.. An excellent product.

I would like to congratulate EcoCare Australia on their product. Since I have been using Ecocare Activator in my septic tank, the problems of the past have disappeared. The previous years of blocked drains, over-flowing, seepage in tanks, etc; have gone. Bad odours and reoccurring problems have ceased.

We have been using the product for over 15 years in our septic system and have had our system pumped out once in all that time and were told our system was the cleanest they had ever had to service.
